  • Saisonstart DPL Inlinehockey Liga

The Baden Bruins Army hockey team have clinched a spot in the DPL Division I Inline Hockey finals. The Bruins just finished off a great weekend with two big victories. On Saturday night, they played for the DPL Pokal title against their DPL Stars rivals. The Bruins would win this game 7-5 with a completely dominant performance. These two teams were predicted to go all the way to the finals this year in both the league finals and Pokal finals. Fortunately for the Bruins, it just wasn't in the stars for the DPL Stars that night.\r\n\r\nBoth teams would then meet again the very next afternoon for a game three finish to determine which team would go to the DPL Division I finals. Both teams had most of their players available so there was no question that the winner of this game deserved to go to that final spot. Early in the game, it was the DPL Stars who would strike first blow. But this did not bother the Angry Bear as they were familiar to this from the evening before. They knew they had that talent to pull this game off again. It was just a matter of time. It would be Takahiro Kakumaro of the Bruins to even up the score 1-1. Then the Bruins would up the ante one more time with a goal from Andreas Ligenfelser (2-1). Another Bruins goal from Volker Lindenzweig (German national player) would set the beginning of the end for the Stars. With a push from the Stars late in the third and a second goal, now the game was within one. The Bruins hung on to the lead and were able to finish off the victory thanks to a very strong defensive game. Game MVP for both games go to the Bruins assistant captain Tom Connell. Tom Connell is a contractor at 5th Signal in Mannheim and has been the heart and soul of the Bruins Inline team since its inception last year.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThese two teams have a history of close competative games. In fact last year in a penalty shootout, the game was so close, that both teams had to run through their entire rosters twice to finally determine a winner. Unfortuantely for the Bruins, they would not get the better of that matchup. However, this year was quite different. Not only did ex-DPL Stars founder Ken Robinson return to his team of 10 years, but also brought along with him a few friends along that way that would give the Bruins the extra horsepower they needed to top the league for the 2010 season.\r\n\r\nThe Bruins play the Blue Devils for the title on Saturday, 25 September at 1930 in Friedrishspark. The Adler Mannheim players will be onsite to hand out trophies and sign autographs. Private Dancer will end the evening with live music and a free inline skate following the final game.\r\n\r\nmore info: http://www.adleralliance.com/index.p...:military-news

this was just posted;\r\n\r\nThe Baden Bruins Army Inline hockey team are the new 2010 Division I DPL champions. In just their second season as an inline team, the Bruins were able to capture, not only the Championship title, but complete the full sweep by finishing first in the regular season, as well as capturing the coveted DPL Pokal title.\r\n\r\nIt was a great event for the fans at the newly renovated Friedrichspark stadium in Mannheim. Friedrichspark stadium was built in 1939 and has been the home to the six-time German ice hockey champions, the Mannheim Adler. Players such as Paul Messier (brother of Mark Messier), Jochen Hecht (Buffalo Sabres), and Cristobal Huet (Chicago Blackhawks) have all laced up the skates in front of the 8,000 screaming Mannheim fans. Now the stadium is home to both the DPL and HCL inline leagues.\r\n\r\nThe Bruins are no strangers to winning hockey titles here at Friedrichspark. In both 2001 and 2002, the Bruins captured gold in the local German ice hockey league while playing in Friedrichspark. Now, the Bruins have returned to Friedrichspark, but with wheels on their skates playing on a special inline sport court.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThis year’s final was no walk in the park for the Bruins. Full of confidence coming off the Pokal victory one week earlier, the Bruins found themselves trailing for most of the game. It was not until the third period, that the team was able to come into true form and sink four straight. According to Assistant Captain Tom Connell (a contractor with 5th Signal), “Things were looking dismal as we were down by two goals going into the third period. I knew we had the skill to win the game, I was just worried if the luck, however, was on their side”. The Bruins would go ahead and win the game 7 to 5.\r\n\r\n“Placing the Bruins name on both the DPL Championship trophy and Pokal trophy was sweet vindication for us” said Connell. “After all, we have made it to the Division I Ice Hockey finals for the past two seasons, but fell short both times. Now everything is OK.”\r\n\r\nThe Bruins are currently preparing for another chance to but their name on the cup, but this time, on steel blades instead of rollers. More information about the Bruins and their upcoming schedule can be found on their team website – www.badenbruins.com.\r\n\r\n\r\nKen Robinson - A4 News\r\n\r\nmore info: http://www.adleralliance.com/index.p...:military-news
