The Champions League is a crock of sh*t. So when a player gets hurt in one of these games it really does not help the team in the regular season. The DEL should have an All-Star Week. Have the fans vote, along with coaches and whatever is equal to a GM. Have a skills compitition and a game. Stop trying to make the DEL and other European leagues like the DFB and Bundesliga. This is NOT soccer for Christ sake. It is HOCKEY!

It would probably be less shitty if the German teams returned to the ice earlier than 2 weeks prior to the first CHL game. Injuries aren't the problem in my opinion - in every sport the team risks being confronted with injuries happening outside the regular season. If Milan Lucic breaks his leg during the NHL's preseason, the Bruins lose an important player for several games of the regular season without any CHL-equivalent.

Instead, I think it's quite absurd to promote the CHL as an elite contest of utmost importance while a) a big part of the participating teams just bought themselves in and b) at least most of the German teams show up directly after their summer training and nearly without any sessions on the rink. And then everybody acts surprised when the fans regard the CHL as a simple preparation for the regular season. In my opinion a European league could work and could enhance the game, but not if it's not taken 100% serious by every participating team when it comes to preparation. And if we really want a contest for the elite, then everyone should qualify and not pay for a lifetime membership.

Rarely does a player get seriously hurt in the NHL pre-season. They are warm ups to see who gets a roster spot and who goes back to the AHL. But I also agree that all teams in the CHL do not take it seriously.

I have to agree that I do not like running the chance of injuries either in the CHL. Pre-season is something different teams are not normally playing 100% and not willing to risk injury. When you say the games are for the elite and a title teams are willing to risk more and as said above our players are not up to the normal level of play yet and injuries are more likely early in the season than later.
Also as mentioned above it is really not about the elite if it was you would not see teams guaranteed to be in it no matter what their record was the previous year.
